Well today its the 29th of Feb. which makes it a "leap day" or locally うるうび (閏日) which happens once every 4 years.

Learned this from a movie poster. けっせん (決戦) the kanji kind of explains it but this means "decisive battle" can also describe sports.

I can recognize this euphemism but wanna remember the spelling. じんしんじこ (人身事故) litterally means "body incident" but its a train station euphemism for when someone ends it by jumping in front of a train. Thus train delays. This might also be used in the case of an accident that ends up the same way.

two new words! I'm studying a Japanese book about learning basic Chinese. We are learning "Are you a [job]?" right now. Two words i didnt know are のうみん (農民) which is a farmer (peasent??) and かんごちょう (看護長) which I knew as ナース which is nurse. the kanji version seems old, and about head nurse in the army?

おくやみもうしあげます (お悔やみ申し上げます)

Not sure how i missed this easy phrase until now but heres what seems to be "my condolences" as in what you say when someone passes away.

This was on tunnel sign that said dont put up "posters" (this of course this only means the poster part of that, the part I wasnt sure about.)

てばたしんごう (手旗信号)

The Japanese in this case makes more sense than the English! Maybe I'm going crazy but the above is easier for me to puzzle out than the English "semaphore signaling"! If you are like WTF when you see the English, let me explain. It's like the handーflag signals you see when planes are landing on aircraft carriers and stuff. Maybe the attached picture ruined the guessing game? (I'm trying to attach with my cellpone a picture i made on my pc, lets hope it works! note that the above combo is for only one character, unlike English semaphone signals... which also use a different color setup. oh? you wanna know? yellow and red triangle. Bonus points if you can figure out what character it is. Big Hint: its based on Katakana stroke order.) I dare you to try to work this word into a conversation today!
